(and you can too)

Cathy Lynn Gossman, writing for USA Today, pulls together three very different stories under a title called, “Gays and God: Are there limits on love, outrage?” (Read the full story here.)

In one story, a human being (David Kato) is murdered for his ministry to gays while his church remains silent. In the second story, a wildly successful pastor (Joel Osteen) softly and tenderly condemns homosexuality as a sin on national television. In the third story, against incredible odds, a man (Ted Haggard) candidly shares once more the story of how he overcame drug and sexual addition, kept his family together, and started a new church.

The article ends with this poignant grace-note question: “Which of those stories tells you the most about the reach — or limits — of God or human love?”

That’s a question for us to answer together, Little Saints.

There’s something a little self indulgent here. Something is a little off. One man smiled and smiled on national television while he sat next to his lovely wife and aligned himself with the literalist status quo as he asserted that homosexuality is a sin. The other boldly stated that he  would have been categorized as a bisexual if he were younger in this present culture. The first man is dead because he tried to stand up for a group of people who are being pursecuted.
