I’ve never heard the argument for gay marriage put more succinctly, though the standard brush-off and lack of rational engagement is nothing new.

Yes, majority does rule and will continue to keep a vice on the lives of many same sex couples who are continually being pushed back and pushed down. My cousin was very ill a couple of years ago. She was in intensive care and her partner of 17 years was not allowed to have any say so in her care or visit her. When she recovered they were able to marry each other. He and she are now “legally” able to share property, health-care demands, and what ever else may arise in their “golden years.”
When will this right be allowed to all people no matter what sex? If a gay partner died tonight the family of the deceased would have the right to come in and tell the survivor to be out in 30 days, no questions asked. Even if there is a shared will and legal papers they could take the survivor to court and drag out a long painful appeal. It is simply disgusting.
Some people can’t even begin to fight because they would be fired from their jobs if anyone knew of their true preferences. What century do we live in?
