In my church, just this past Sunday, the whole congregation was given a sheet of paper with different goals on it. We have been going back to basics. One of the goals that I signed off on that I would do this year is to read the entire Bible from start to finish in one year. Our pastor has told us that if you read on average at least 4 chapters daily, 30 minutes…. you can finish the Bible in a year. So I have taken on that challenge. It will take discipline, but I’m up for it. It gives me a chance to also read allowed to my son.
The other goals that our congregation have taken on are:
    * Pray for the entire world, a daily prayer to pray for a different country every day for the next 12 months.
    * Sacrifice my money for a specific purpose to assist a missionary related project for the next 12 months.
    * Spend time in another context: allot time to help others NOT in your comfort zone. (at least 7 days over the next 12 months)
    * Commit my life to a multiplying community: participating weekly in church and a contributing member of the church for the next 12 months.

These all have come from the book. Radical, By David Platt. This is an interesting book that takes a look at how Christianity in America has lost focus.
This is an experiment in progress….So we shall see how I can do with it. I feel pretty excited right now about it!

I also find it to be a challenge. I don’t really know why. My mother-in-law, to be, bought me a Bible that is divided into days so you can read it in a year and that has helped. I also read the Upper Room everyday and enjoy that. So it is obvious that I crave that structure too. I do admire my grandmother who set apart time every morning to read her Bible and has read it so many times she has losr count.
