(and you can too)

I’m trying to stick with my Lenten discipline these last few days. How is it going with you?

EFFORT! DEDICATION! DISCIPLINE! Where do they go? What gets in their way? Why do I not do the things I know are best for me and others? Hmmm? Seems like I have heard something similar to that before. No, I have not followed through with Lent intentions.

Have you stuck with your intentions for Lent? Hmmm . . . my effort to answer this question brings to mind a quote from our friend BJ (the smartest person I know). My reaction to the question of intent is: That’s not the point. The true question is, for me: Have I learned from this experience? The answer is a resounding YES!
I’ve actually been able to keep my Lenten intention to abstain from alcohol. It was so hard at first, but became easier each day. Now the hard part begins! Where do I go after Easter? Do I return to my previous “2-glasses-of-wine-a-night” routine? The alcohol, I’ve discovered, was a secondary issue. The real issue was my focus on the arrival of 5:00 . . . do I really want to go back to that daily “waiting” for the wine”, or do I want to set my sights on other things?
    We’ll see.

I was doing fairly well with just a bump after the time change. Then my birthday came in the middle of last week and I forgot about it for four days. Got back to it on Sunday partially. Trying to get back to it all. My devotion was to get up an hour earlier each day and also do the noon office and evening office from the Book of Common Prayer. Switched to using Common Prayer: A Liturgy For Ordinary Radicals mid way through Lent.
